Located in the heart of Minneapolis\, it brings together a diverse collection of plants in woodland\, wetland\, and meadow habitats in just 18 acres. This unique garden started by Eloise (and others) has been carefully cultivated over 120 years by many hands into the wondrous place it is today. \nThe Eloise Butler Wildflower Garden Florilegium captures the intimate details of the beautiful wild plants of this garden. A florilegium is a compendium of illustrations of the plants in a particular place\, as a visual and historical record. Created by artists of the Minnesota School of Botanical Art\, the project reclaims a centuries old form to highlight a special\, public place that’s important today. It carries on a tradition of botanical illustration that brings together art and science to create accurate\, yet expressive\, depictions of living plants. \nThis all-ages exhibition centers on the 111 watercolors of the florilegium. DESCRIPTION:The Jam Lab is a free monthly musical improvisation workshop for all ages and skill levels. Each session will feature diverse practices aimed at inviting collaborative musical creativity. We’ll play improv games to explore the varied forms music takes\, sit in deep listening to sound and silence\, talk about our personal experiences with music\, improvise freely\, and compose musical pieces based on shared psychology as well as chance. \nThe musical improv “games” are participatory exercises with minimal prompts that serve as catalysts for collaborative improvisation. In a freeform manner\, we’ll decide on musical rules for each exercise\, then attempt to perform them in sound. These are experiments with no set outcome; the rules will chart a direction to move toward\, then we’ll see where the improv takes us. A wealth of possibilities for inspiration will be provided: cards containing different forms and techniques\, dice and timers to select parameters\, loop pedals and drum machines to cast sonic palettes\, and others. \nDrawing on free improv music traditions\, these sessions will focus on personal expression and experimentation\, as opposed to technical skill and cultural knowledge. SUMMARY:Middle School Movie Club: Edward Scissorhands | Walker Art Center
DESCRIPTION:Middle schoolers\, kick off Halloween with a free film\, movie-inspired costume contest\, and art-making. The screening of Edward Scissorhands begins at 1 pm\, and drop-in art-making runs from noon to 4 pm. A costume contest will follow the film screening in the cinema. Wear any movie-inspired costume to participate and for a chance to win a prize.  \nMiddle School Movie Club is designed for middle schoolers and their loved ones. Caregivers and family members also receive free admission and film tickets and are welcome to join activities or check out the galleries during the event.   \nAdvance online registration is recommended\, but limited walk-up tickets will be available on the day of the event at the Main Lobby desk. Seating is available on a first-come\, first-served basis.
