Minneapolis never made it to the moon, but Bracket $Minneapolis never made it to the moon, but Brackett Field Park came closer than most. 🚀 In 1962, with the whole country caught up in space race fever, a steel rocket ship 35 feet tall touched down on this Longfellow playground. Generations of kids climbed it until safety standards caught up in the late ‘90s, and a 2004 park renovation sent it off the grounds with no plans for a return trip. The neighbors had other plans. A group calling itself the Brackett Rocket Boosters (we could not improve on that name if we tried) teamed up with @forecastpublicart and raised $50,000 to bring it home as public art, and in 2007 it relaunched as “Return Journey,” a sculpture by artist Randy Walker ringed in 84 metal cables. This September @36th.art threw it a LIFTOFF party with the @midtowngreenway lighting the rocket for one night with live music, giant bubbles, a flashlight countdown, and a talk from retired NASA astronaut Duane “Digger” Carey. The crowd made the case, and now 36thART and @longfellowcommunitycouncil are raising money to light the rocket permanently, starting with a $15,000 goal for the lighting design phase. The park itself dates to the early 1920s and carries the name of George A. Brackett, one of the city’s original park commissioners, who we suspect would approve of the rocket. Swing by and bring the kids, who will absolutely ask to climb it. The answer is still no. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ 📍 Brackett Field Park, 2728 39th Ave S, Minneapolis #Minneapolis #LongfellowMpls #MinneapolisParks #TwinCitiesFamily #minneapolisart$

Minneapolis has a drink called the Pumpkin Spice Lawsuit. We rest our case. 🎃

Comment PSL and we’ll send you the full list and details.

Somewhere between Carver and Roseville, local baristas are making pumpkin syrup out of actual pumpkins and stacking seasonal flights on wooden boards for a delectable pumpkin beverage journey. We found 11 of them, and there’s not one single drive-thru on the list!
