A Festival of Lore and Legend

Viking Fest Minnesota is not your average fall festival. Imagine stepping into a world where myth and history intertwine, where guests can explore the culture of the Norse people through immersive activities, live performances, and authentic reenactments. From combat demonstrations to Norse mythology storytelling, the festival blends education with entertainment, creating an atmosphere that delights both kids and adults.

The living history encampment is at the heart of the festival. Here, visitors will encounter blacksmiths hammering away at iron, weavers working their looms, woodworkers carving tools, and cooks preparing food with centuries-old methods. It is a chance to see Viking Age life unfold before your eyes and ask questions of reenactors who know the history inside and out.

Family Fun and Hands-On Adventures

Families will find plenty to do together. Interactive activities are woven throughout the festival, giving everyone a chance to try something new. Guests can test their aim with axe throwing and archery, or dive into puzzle quests that spark curiosity and teamwork. Kids will love the dedicated children’s area, which features coloring pages, arts and crafts, and safe toy swords and shields for imaginative play.

Feasts Fit for a Viking

Of course, no Viking adventure would be complete without a feast. Festivalgoers can fuel up at food trucks offering hearty meals, snacks, and beverages. For those looking for something extra special, Viking Fest offers Theater in the Round feasts. These immersive dining experiences combine food, story, and spectacle. On Saturdays, adults can enjoy a four-course meal laced with humor and theatrical flair. Sundays feature family-friendly two-course feasts that welcome all ages.

Animals and Norse Traditions

The Norse people lived closely with animals, and that connection comes to life at Viking Fest. Families can meet Icelandic horses, sheep, and chickens in the Animal Building and on the Animal Field. Demonstrations include horseback archery, blade shearing, and fleece felting, showcasing just how important animals were to Viking life.

Music, Comedy, and Stage Acts

The festival lineup also shines with live performances. Each weekend, guests can watch The Danger Committee’s blend of knife throwing, comedy, and stunts, or be captivated by the Barátok Belly Dance Company. On October 4 and 5, the internationally known Harp Twins will perform with the Volfgang Twins. On October 11 and 12, Nordic Daughter brings modern music with Nordic inspiration. Add in comedy troupes, educational experts, and theatrical performers, and you have a stage lineup that keeps the energy high all day long.

Do Not Miss the Viking Ship and Museum

One of the festival’s crown jewels is the largest working Viking ship in Minnesota. At 30 feet long and more than 7 feet wide, it is a sight to behold and offers a rare opportunity to see Viking seafaring history up close. Nearby, the Viking Age museum features artifacts, high-quality replicas, and hands-on displays that tell the story of Norse craftsmanship and daily life. This blend of authenticity and storytelling makes the museum a highlight for curious kids and adults alike.
