Helping Dads Connect to Make an Impact
We know its super tough to garner the energy to be social after a long day. But let’s be honest – sometimes its needed! Make the night before Father’s Day a time to raise awareness of and support dads in your community and around the country.
What is Father’s Eve?
Father’s Eve is focused on making the night before Father’s Day a special time each year to raise awareness of dads, what it means to be a father and how to help people be better at such an important job.
- It features signature events around the country that bring together people, ideas, and energy focused on supporting dads and having fun.
- Father’s Eve was created to help dads of all ages renew existing friendships and make new connections to help support each other.
- It is a way to share, learn, connect, laugh, and do something good for your neighbor, friend or the community.
Why Did Father’s Eve Start?
Father’s Eve was started by a group of dad-volunteers who found that it made a difference in each of their own lives to be able to have time where they could draw on the support from friends by having a time to talk about what it means to be a father and how they can each be better at it.
- The first official event was in Minnesota is 2015.
- In 2016 groups around the country are now planning their own Father’s Eve celebrations in their communities, building on the success and energy of “a new holiday.”
We all share the same goal: Make Father’s Eve the one night each year to bring dads of all ages together to have fun and share ideas and advice about common yet challenging issues and at the same time support each other and the community.
About Father’s Eve Founders
A group of friends who, like many, struggled to stay connected with each other decided to use the night before Father’s Day as a way to spend some time together. The friends were now also all now dads and the time together quickly focused around how each was doing raising their kids and supporting their families. They talked with each other about how to be a better father, shared ideas as to what did and did not work well with growing children.
“I have two daughters that are amazing, yet I had always thought I would be turning to my dad and older brother for advice and support to make sure I am doing the best job I can to raise them,” said John Francis, one of the Father’s Eve founders. “My dad and my brother have both passed away so it has been really important for me to have a way to talk with friends to get advice, think through challenges, and keep me focused on doing the best job I can.”
“Father’s Eve is not about solving every problem someone has in a single night,” Francis said.
“It’s about finding the right way to bring dads together to create support, make it easier to talk about things that are often hard to discuss, and do it in a way that does some good. And the idea for Father’s Eve was born.
About the first Father’s Eve
The friends who originally gathered together and discovered they shared the same commitment to wanting to be better dads also realized that not only was this event helping them – it could do more if there was a way to reach and help an even broader group of dads. So in 2015, the first official Father’s Eve brought more than 150 dads together at O’Gara’s restaurant in Saint Paul.
