Bugs, Blankets and Bluegrass | Richardson Nature Center

Experience the magic of prairies, insects and live music at this free event for all ages! Pack up dinner and a blanket to enjoy a picnic in the prairie while listening to live folk and bluegrass tunes by The May North. Venture into the grasses with sweep nets and bug-catching jars, make a prairie-inspired craft, meet live animals and discover the captivating world of monarch migration. Celebrate Richardson Nature Center’s 55th anniversary and learn about the history of Hyland Lake Park Reserve. Registration not required. Free.
If the Richardson parking lot (8737 E Bush Lake Road) is full, there’s overflow parking just south of us at Bush Lake Beach (9140 E Bush Lake Road). It’s a scenic 1/3 mile stroll through the prairie along a paved trail. You can even enjoy a ‘Hyland History Hike’ on the way to the welcome tent. Drivers are welcome to drop off passengers at the Richardson lot before parking at the Bush Lake Beach lot.
