“I am just recently learning how to recognize my children’s tears as their way of communicating their “Big” feelings to me. It was my youngest daughter, Lili, who was my biggest teacher.

During one of our early morning scrambles to get out the door, she was all upset over the tangles and snarls in her hair. I calmly asked her to stop crying.

Her response? ‘YOU NEVER LET ME CRY.'”

“Oh friend, you are in the midst of one of the most incredible years of your life. I know, because I’ve been there.”

3. What Not to Say to a Mom of OneTop 10 Posts of 2015: The Best of Twin Cities Familys Blog

“I have one child. It’s not by choice. I would have had more if my eggs had cooperated. Other moms have one child because, well, they chose to have one child. Whether by our own personal choice or biology’s limitations, we find ourselves at the same destination: single child families. And that’s where people have opinions.”

 5. 7 Things I Wish My Son Could KnowTop 10 Posts of 2015: The Best of Twin Cities Familys Blog

“Thankfully there’s so much time for “I love you” in between those admittedly small moments of frustration and irritation that I have no doubt my son feels loved. But it has made me think about all the other things I wish he could know. And maybe, just maybe, someday he will.”

“Without having done the amnio, it is extremely likely we would not have caught this before birth until she suffered sometime later in life. I would not have been prepared or understood how to explain Turners to adults, and especially not to our two children…My girl will bring in a new set of rules and way of life. I’ve been given time to accept that we’ll soon begin a “different” way of living, not to mention a different way of loving.”

“Do you want to know what gets me through? Empathy. It’s the glue that binds my marriage. We have committed to each other that if we don’t have anything else in this world, we will always have empathy for each other. So I sit back and think. And it sometimes brings me to tears. Having a traveling husband is a two way road.  I know he dislikes it as much as I do.  The hotel beds and showers.  The constant hustle between plane, train and car, literally. The exhaustion.  There’s no way I could do what he does. Spousal traveling can be tough on both parties but like most challenges, there are upsides, too.”

“We scheduled our third ultrasound for a Wednesday morning. We drove separately so we could each head into work after we got to say a quick hello to our sweet June baby.

It was there where we learned that our June baby was no longer. Our long awaited baby’s heart had stopped beating sometime between our last ultrasound eight days prior.”
