Ice Castles is an award-winning frozen attraction located in four cities across North America. The experience is built using hundreds of thousands of icicles hand-placed by professional ice artists. The castles include breathtaking LED-lit sculptures, frozen thrones, ice-carved tunnels, slides, fountains and much more.
Located at the Minnesota State Fairgrounds, the Ice Castles offer a dazzling winter wonderland for families and visitors of all ages. This annual event features towering ice structures, winding tunnels, and majestic frozen archways crafted entirely from thousands of hand-placed icicles. Families can enjoy sliding down icy slides, exploring glowing caverns, and marveling at color-changing LED lights embedded in the sculptures. For a touch of enchantment, visitors can even meet costumed characters like an Ice Princess or a Snow King. Bundle up and bring your sense of wonder for a truly unforgettable outing!
The Ice Castles are open from mid-January to late February, depending on weather conditions, with evening hours providing the best views of the illuminated ice formations. Tickets must be purchased in advance online, as they often sell out quickly, especially on weekends. Warm beverages and snacks are available on-site to keep everyone cozy. Be sure to dress warmly with waterproof boots, as you’ll be walking on compact snow and ice. Whether you’re planning a family outing, a romantic date night, or simply a fun day out with friends, the Ice Castles are a perfect way to celebrate the magic of Minnesota winters.
