Twin Cities Familys Blog’s 2015 Favorite Things!

Twin Cities Familys Blog's 2015 Favorite Things | Twin Cities Familys Blog

We’ve been working hard on our second annual Favorite Things feature and are thrilled be able to finally reveal this year’s Top Ten!  By working hard, we mean we have been scouring shops in the Twin Cities, looking for the best products on the market by local makers.  All of these products come from women-owned businesses, including Mompreneuers, just like many of you!  Here’s the best part…these are not products for your kids, these products are just for YOU!

This year’s favorite spot to eat was Scusi.  Hands down, one of the cutest spots in St. Paul.  Fantastic service, amazing food and the atmosphere can flex to either date night, girls night or a family dinner.

It probably wouldn’t take many words to convince you that these macarons from Nikkolette’s Macarons belong on this list. We’ve fallen for these and the rainbow of colors and flavors they come in.  Nikkolette’s specializes in just macarons and these beautiful cookies are a perfect treat.  And don’t get us started on the Macaron of the Month club!

Ahnesti Refresher Spray is, essentially, a mom’s best friend.  It’s similar to dry shampoo, but so much better.  Rather than stay in your hair, you spray it on, wipe it out with a cloth and instead of masking the dirt in your hair, it actually removes it.  Rumor has it that if you have a daily relationship with it, you can easily go EIGHT days without a shampoo.  Because it’s truly sanitizing, it’s a great multi-tasker that allows you to use it as a hand sanitizer, or to remove odors from your hands. Get to know it by watching the how-to video.

This is another great multi-use product. Epitome’s Mutli-Tasking Facial Cleanser removes your make-up and impurities while conditioning your skin.  You actually put in on dry, then massage with water and remove with a wash cloth to exfoliate.  Needless to say, any product with all-natural products and labeled “multi-tasker” quickly jumps to the top of our list.  Eptiome focuses on luxury products with minimal fuss – we also recommend you check out their signature lash serum.

Remember wine charms? Those are so 2005.  Clingks are a fun, new way to mark your glass with a little sass.  We’re 100% in love with them!  Each set comes with 12 different decals that easily go on and come off of your wine glass, making it easy to figure out just which glass of red is yours.  There are the standard sets, which are clever enough to make you giggle, but they also make custom sets, which take your party to the next level. We loved having our own custom set for this party marked with #TCMBFavThings, and you could easily customize these for a party or shower.

We’d be surprised if you’re not already familiar with Evereve, but did you know that they’re local and it all started with one local mom?  We love their focus on Moms and how to keep us styling’ (spit-up and all), but these necklaces hold a deeper meaning. The Give Life collection is a very important and purposeful initiative of owner, Megan Tamte.  20% of proceeds from the sale of these necklaces goes towards mothers in developing countries. Evereve has partnered with Opportunity International to help mothers attain micro-loans, which in turn helps them feed their families and bring life to their communities. Since Evereve has eight area locations, it’s easy to stop in and grab one for yourself.

Fashion by MAI is a great local line of clothing intended for yoga, but perfect for other workouts and just being out and about.  Basically, it’s total mom-wear, but in the cutest way.  We fell in love with these headbands that make our weekend buns and ponytails look much more polished.  One of the best parts about the clothing in this line is that it stays put on your body, so no adjusting, just comfort to go, a must for moms.

Elixery is a vintage laboratory located in Minneapolis.  This lipstick is scientific, natural, cruelty free and gorgeous. We chose Devious, which is a sheer, romantic raisin-plum that flatters your complexion. A hint of gloss gives it further depth and texture. It’s simple, but spellbinding, and if you’re looking for that quiet pop of color, this is it. It’s an Elixery customer favorite, lightly scented with vanilla.

Another product we didn’t have to think much about, but after taking a deeper look at this company, we loved this wine even more. Teresa Meschini keeps Famiglia Meschini and her own family of six running smoothly. She runs from soccer games, to wine tastings with carpools in between.  A mom like this understands our need for good wine at the end of the day running our own families and the wines they offer are like none other.   We chose two (one is just never enough, is it?):

The Chardonnay is a fruit forward, unoaked chardonnay which means that it was vinified in stainless steel rather than an oak barrel so there are no tasty oak or buttery flavors in the wine.  This wine would pair very well with light fish tacos or a shrimp dish, but can easily be enjoyed on its own.   Tastes best when shared with friends.
Famiglia Meschini Malbec Reserva is our flagship wine and we are very proud of the consistency of the quality year after year.  Its rich and elegant without being pretentious.   This wine is screaming to be paired with some red meat (our apologies to vegetarians).

Minnesotans love to work together and support one another, and that shows through in this amazing Minnesota design, a collaboration between two fantastic local makers.  Live & Love MN joined with Senn & Sons and what they created is the best local design around.  You’ve likely seen this line popping up at local boutiques pretty much everywhere around the metro and we can’t get enough of the gold-foil print, which comes in six colors. Of course there’s always the coffee mugs, the t-shirt, not to mention the canvas bag.  Might as well buy it all, right?

Candles can help set a relaxing tone for the end of a long day and we are over the moon for these custom candles by Minneapolis Chandlery.  Custom is her specialty, not only for scents you prefer, but also in customizing the can lid itself.  These would be a perfect gift for teachers, great for showers and events, or just to make someone feel special.  We are loving the Peach & Chamomile.  All are hand-poured with soy or beeswax.
