Handmod is a new store located in Maplewood Mall, it’s handmade art with a positive message! Handmod is one of the newest on the scene at the reimagined Maplewood Mall and owner, Paul “Uncle Paul” Johnson as he’s known around the mall, is making himself a staple at Maplewood Mall. Not only is he opening up a new business but he’s lending a hand and helping other small businesses in the mall with his work working talents. This gorgeously curated space is not only a beautiful place to shop for unique decor and thoughtful gifts but also an incredible space for DIY art. With a sharp eye, Paul brings out the hidden beauty in things from the past. From restoring an old truck bed from a field as the perfect backdrop to display gnome head planters, to using 100-year-old wood fencing for frames, Where others see scrap, Paul sees a canvas—breathing new life into old wood fences.

Handmod’s DIY space consists of four large harvest-style tables with plenty of space and the feeling of community at the same time. These handmade tables have built-in container to clean off brushes (no more tears over spilling water all over the table AND ruining your creations!) The options for painting your creations are endless. There is a wide variety to select from in-store including, bowls, dinosaurs, gnomes, owls, flowers, and even a tiny toilet! This is where your creativity can begin; just grab some paints and choose your piece. The bonus of DIY at Handmod is after you create, it takes a quick ten-minute wait for the clear coat to set and then you can take it right home. Price points are incredibly reasonable; $15 – $30. There is not a “sitting fee” and you can stay as long as it takes you to finish your masterpiece.
The DIY area at Handmod is the perfect space for birthday parties, date nights, team building, school fundraisers and much much more. Paul creates his own molds which enables you to design a custom mold for your particular event. The TVs in the DIY space can be customized to promote and celebrate your specific event. Your options are only limited to your creativity and imagination.

While you are waiting for your art to dry, take some time to walk through the store. You’ll find artwork by other local artists showcased alongside Handmod’s creations. Handmod is a great place to discover one-of-a-kind gifts and stylish home decor.
