For so many families in Minnesota, finding a fun summer activity that packs a wollop of entertainment and is also affordable for the whole family is a serious challenge. Luckily, you can kick off your summer of fun at the Flint Hills International Children’s Festival, presented by Ordway!

Join us for Family Weekend on June 4 & 5 as the parks and public spaces around the Ordway are transformed into an artistic wonderland that encourages everyone to embrace their inner child! The Festival, which is one of the largest children’s festivals of its kind in the country, is a multi-day experience where wonder and imagination await around every corner. Your family will be swept away on adventures that explore new worlds, diverse cultures, and powerful heritages with indoor and outdoor performances by artists from over 25 countries on 7 different stages. All outdoor performances and activities are FREE, and indoor performances are just $5.00 per ticket!

Outside, experience a variety of exciting performances by local and regional artists in the parks surrounding the Ordway. We’ll have folktales and songs from across the globe as told by Twin Cities storytellers and musicians, craft activities from 25 different arts, cultural and educational organizations, and an instrument “petting zoo” where children can experience musical instruments from all over the world up close. We’re also excited to feature The Touch of Sound, an interactive audio installation featuring the sounds of Saint Paul. Plus, don’t miss the other dozens of family-friendly activities such as face painting, balloon artists, tattoos, juggling, dance lessons and more!

The Festival is also a great place to experience world-class! family performances at a very affordable prices – all indoor shows are just $5.00 per ticket This year’s indoor performance lineup features:

  • Acrobuffo’s Air Play, an innovative spectacle that merges wondrous air sculptures with side-splitting comedic performances.
  • Viento de Agua Unplugged, a band rooted in West African musical tradition, presents their stripped down, straight ahead, all percussion performances of Afro-Puerto Rican music.
  • Marionetas de la Esquina’s Sleeping Beauty Dreams, based on the popular fairy tale, uses dynamic puppetry, humorous storytelling, and video projections to demonstrate the power of creativity.
  • Presentation House Theatre’s Where the Wild Things Are is an interactive adventure that asks the audience to join Max as he is transported to a faraway land inhabited by the mighty Wild Things.

Plus don’t miss the free outdoor spectacle performance, Squonk Opera’s Pneumatica, a concert with live original music that permeates the air while inflatables pump up and immerse the audience. The 40 foot tall “Lady Pneumatica” is brought to life through music, imagery and the power of air.

In case you get tuckered out while exploring the many activities and performances in and around the park, we’ll have food trucks and vendors in and around the parks including Mannys Tortas, Chicago Dogs, Homestyle Creamery, Potter’s Pasties, Asian Invasion, Fro-Yo-Sol and more!
