We are thrilled to present HALEY (f.k.a. Haley Bonar) as our newest feature in our I Am A Twin Cities Family series. You know this Canadian-born, Minnesota-grown woman for her amazing voice and instrumental talents, but what you may not know is that she is also a mom to an adorable five-year old. We’re sharing a bit about her on that front with you. Be sure to check out her latest album, Impossible Dream, released in 2016!

If we peeked in your purse right now, what would we find?
Orbit gum, too many receipts, red lipstick, lip balm and tampons.
Why do you call the Twin Cities home?
I’ve lived here for almost a decade… I love Saint Paul. It’s quaint and easy to live in.
What’s been the greatest joy of motherhood?
Devoting your life to art can be a time-consuming and selfish endeavor, depending on how you look at it. Creating requires a lot of time alone. Raising a human being is time-consuming and selfless. You can barely go to the bathroom without your kid barging in on you. The two seem to balance each other out well, even though it can be challenging at times. Your kids are a mirror of you and how the world sees you. As an introverted person, mothering has been helpful in pushing me outward, checking myself, not taking myself too seriously. Also, watching my daughter’s weird sense of humor develop has given me a lot of laughter!
What’s been the greatest challenge of motherhood?
SLEEP. She’s always been a super early riser. I’m a morning person, but before 6 am isn’t cool.
How do you hope your life influences and/or inspires other women?
My greatest influences are women who are true to themselves as artists, whether they are mothers or not. I think being unapologetic and confident about your work, image, and point of view is the best gift you can give yourself, which, in turn, will hopefully have a positive influence on those who follow your work.
What’s your favorite song?
That is literally impossible to answer, but I really love “Stand By Your Man” by Tammy Wynette.
