Continuing our I Am A Twin Cities Family series, we’re welcoming Melissa Taylor, Owner of Beauty Lounge Minneapolis located in the heart of Northeast. Melissa’s passion is to empower people to love their hair and feel confident caring for it. She’s offering a class, Kids’ Hair Fundamentals, on December 1 to parents who are looking for help caring for their kids’ multicultural or biracial hair.

If we peeked in your purse right now, what would we find?
Seven different lip glosses/lip sticks, 2 notebooks, a wallet, another small purse, random junk, and a pair of socks.
Why do you call the Twin Cities home?
I own a business here and love the summers. I originally moved here 10 years ago for work.
What’s been the greatest joy of motherhood?
Being able to look at my daughter after she does something completely ridiculous, nodding my head, and saying, “Yeah that’s my child.” Dance parties and being able to directly see how you are shaping your child’s mind to love their individuality.
What’s been the greatest challenge of motherhood?
I’m a single parent, so I would say the biggest challenge is time, balance, and not feeling guilty for taking time for yourself.
How do you hope your life influences and/or inspires other women?
I think many times we feel we need to live life by rules that are completely made up. There is no right answer, there is no perfect path. Do you, boo!
