The Target holiday decorating catalog arrived this week.
Fine. Take all my money.
Sound familiar?
Heading into a fun season of holidays, you may be like me and find yourself with a slightly tighter budget because of all of the “extra” going on this time of year. If that’s the case, don’t worry – I have a few budget-friendly ways to make your outfit feel fresh and a *tad* new even if most of what you are wearing is from the depths of your closet. Try these out!
Try a new accessory or a piece of jewelry: If you’re trying a more trendy style, go for an inexpensive option first to make sure you like the look before investing in a more expensive option (or be like me and stick with inexpensive options all the time). There are many ways to go about this – you could try out a neck scarf/bandana. These are super trendy and provide ways to jazz up an outfit. You could also try a pair of earrings, a new bracelet, or even a headband. Even though they aren’t part of your core outfit, updating an accessory can make your whole outfit feel fresh and new.
Update your basic layer: Are you wearing and re-wearing your basic white tee day after day? If that’s you, chances are your white tee isn’t so white anymore. This may sound like an exaggeration, but simply updating some of your basics can help your whole outfit feel updated. This can apply to a whole slew of your core items: your key layering tank, basic graphic tee for layering under cardigans, your go-to sweater. Give something you know you’re going to wear (and re-wear x100) an update!
Pick up a new pair of shoes: But buy from an inexpensive store such as Target, DSW, Costco (not even kidding) or buy second hand from a site like Thred Up. Sometimes people think of shoe purchases as always being super expensive, but if you want to pick up a trendy shoe style, you can find options at a lower cost. Yes, this may mean it won’t last you as long or may not be quite as comfortable as the more expensive option. That’s all part of the deal! Try a new color of shoe or a different heel style – wearing a different pair of shoes can give an outfit a totally different feel – so give this option a try!
Lipstick: A super inexpensive way to add a new style to your outfit is to try a new lipstick color. Browse the beauty aisles at your local grocery store and try a color that is not your usual selection. I’m not saying you must pick the brightest shade of red, but try something new!
So there are your four ideas for updating your style on a tight budget – update a basic item, try a new accessory, pick up a new pair of shoes, or wear a new shade of lipstick. I hope this helps inspire you to think of smaller ways to help your outfit feel fresh and new!
