53-foot Waterfall
Minnehaha Falls is tucked inside Minnehaha Regional Park – Minnesota’s oldest and most popular park. The 53-foot waterfall attracts more than 850,000 people a year.
Our family loves spending time on the walking trails and bridges, eating lunch or dinner at Sea Salt, and of course running around on the playground and surrounding pavilion. During the summer you can find musical entertainment at the bandstand, and Minneapolis Music in the Parks each Thursday and Friday nights. The spring calendar and list of performers will be available later this spring.
Some of the featured amenities include biking paths, disc golf course, picnic areas, wading pool and volleyball court. You can park in any of the pay lots available.
Dog Lovers
Dog lovers, listen up! Do Fido a favor and bring him to the off-leash dog park on the southside of the park. Dogs DO need a permit to play, and will have a blast. Pro tip: if your dog is a swimmer, bring extra towels after their river run.
Food & Treats
After you have spent time checking out the park, have some lunch or dinner at Sea Salt Eatery. Our favorite eats are the fish tacos (tell the kids its chicken and you’ll be good), the Po’ Boys, and ice cream from Sebastian Joe’s right behind the restaurant.
We always end the day with a couple of scoops of ice cream and tired kids.
Fun Fact
PS: Did you know Minnehaha Falls and the land surrounding it became one of the first state parks in the United States after it was purchased by the state of Minnesota in 1889? New York was the only other state that created a park at that time!
