We’re so excited to be offering an educational Twitter Chat talking all things related to childrens’ trauma with Children’s Hospitals and Clinics of Minnesota!
The chat will begin at 12:00pm on Wednesday, July 8th and we’d love for you to join us.
Leading the chat will be trauma expert Dr. David Hirschman from Children’s (@ChildrensMN). Dr. Hirschman is an expert in pediatric trauma services at Children’s. Dr. Hirschman is the co-medical director of Children’s emergency department. He was born in Argentina and is board certified in emergency medicine and pediatrics, and graduated from the University of Minnesota School of Medicine in Minneapolis.
Even better than a chance to learn more about a widely discussed topic? Children’s is giving away a $50 Starbucks gift card to one of our #MNTraumaChat participants! Be sure to use that specific hashtag in each of your responses to be sure we see your tweets. Additionally, if you’re responding to someone specific, remember to either hit reply, or to use their handle (ex: @TCMomsBlog). In order to be eligible to win that fabulous gift card, we’ll need you to pre-register for the chat below (bottom of page).
This is a great opportunity, so before you brush Twitter off as something you “just don’t do,” take peek at our Twitter basics below, because it’s more than easy to figure out and a ton of fun.

A Twitter Party Guide for Beginners:
-
Sign up for a FREE Twitter Account. If you don’t have one already, go to Twitter and get a free account. Click the yellow “Sign Up” button found on the right side of your screen. Twitter will then take you through the process of creating a new account. (To join a Twitter party or chat, you must NOT make your account protected/private, but rather accessible to everyone.)
- Next, follow Twin Cities Familys Blog (@TCMomsBlog) and @ChildrensMN to be sure you’re following everyone involved in the chat.
-
Familiarize yourself with Twitter. Follow some of your friends or people/organizations you are interested in (Start by following @TCMomsBlog!). Send a few tweets, see how your timeline updates with new posts once you start to follow others.
-
Follow the Chat Hashtag :#MNTraumaChat. The hashtag is the key to this chat. Think of it as a keyword (or phrase). Without it, this Twitter chat won’t work. Each attendee must include #MNTraumaChat in each tweet sent in order to be “seen” and included in the chat. Without it, your tweet is just a tweet and won’t be recognized as being part of the Twitter chat. You might also consider using TweetChat to focus just on the conversation happening around our party. To make it easy, TweetChat will automatically add the #MNTraumaChat hashtag for you. Otherwise, you can search for the hashtag through the Twitter search feature, but this will require refreshing your browser to see the most recent tweets that use that hashtag.
-
Be ready to learn! Don’t worry about trying to view every tweet. Just sit back, say what’s on your mind, and be ready to ask any questions that come to mind as the other tweets roll in. We welcome open discussion and a variety of opinions on this issue, but as always, please keep your comments and replies respectful throughout the chat.
- Most importantly, do all of this a few days ahead of the party so you’re all set and can jump right into the chat.
We hope this will be a great opportunity for you to learn a bit more about trauma and how to manage accidents when they arise from a leading pediatric expert. We’d love for you to join in and can’t wait to learn more from our sponsors Children’s Hospitals and Clinics!
