Let me tell you — there is never a dull moment when you are living with a two year old. I mostly disagree with the age old adage — “terrible twos.” My daughter has her “terrible” moments, of course, but her good behavior far outweighs the bad. She’s really a good kid. (Ask me again when she’s three…) That being said, here are my top reasons why two year olds rock as well as the reasons they might send you to the loony bin…
“SCHOOL BUS!” My daughter is in awe of school busses, garbage trucks, and playground slides & swings, exclaiming what each is every time she sees one. Imagine their world for a moment though… every single thing is new and interesting, and they aren’t afraid to show their excitement for it. We could all use a lesson from them as a good reminder to appreciate the amazing things around us every day. I mean, garbage trucks are pretty darn cool when you think about it…
I normally have to wake Finley up in the morning to go to daycare, but guess what — she never complains about it. I don’t know about you, but I’m rather punch my alarm clock than smile at it when it wakes me up.
Bring them to the park — happy. Bring them to the beach — happy. Bring them to Target — happy. Give them a wet paper towel — happy. (Seriously, a damp paper towel was her entertainment while I made dinner the other night! She “cleaned.”) Yes, they have their moments of being unruly, naughty little humans, but do you ever hear them whine, “Mooooommmmm, I’m boooooorrrrrrred.” “Bored” isn’t even in their vocabulary yet. Again, we could all learn a lesson from their contentment with the simplest things in life… Wet paper towel, anyone?
Out of the blue the other day, Finley said, “You ok, Mommy? You got a owie? Where da bandaid?” as she looked at my finger, remembering that I had put a Band-Aid on it the night before. Their sweet innocence is enough to melt your heart. Speaking of hearts… Finley puts her hand on her chest and says “heart in dere” and “heart sleeping?” Then “heart beating in dere.” I’m going to go melt into a huge proud mommy puddle now.
Don’t you just love nap time!? An, albiet, frantic two hours to feel like yourself and get done all the adult things that need to get done… sometimes the “adult thing” being a glorious nap myself with my cuddly vizsla by my side. Same goes for 7:30/8:00 bedtime, allowing at least three hours of uninterrupted time to do adult “things” before bed. (i.e. drink wine and watch Bachelorette)
Running around naked, no biggie, pooping in the high chair (airing out a diaper-rashed-butt), and proudly telling everyone about it for days! #noshame
These days, anything that is a bump is a “boob” to Finley. She points to a zit on my face and says “mama gotta little boob?” and points to my real boob and says “dat a big boob” (thanks, kid!), her ankle is a boob… lots of boobs in her world, apparently.
Lost Nuk in the car seat? Don’t panic, mommy to the rescue, pulling it out of thin air (so they think)! Every time I do that, Finley’s eyes light up and she gets the biggest smile on her face. I swear she thinks I have magical powers.
“A popiscall? I needa popiscall.”
Finley’s new thing is climbing up into the carseat by herself. It takes everything in me not to grab her and put her in faster! Brushing teeth, washing hands, doing puzzles, you name it — Mamas learn patience real quick.
Even when you sneak off to the bathroom for five minutes, you soon will hear the pitter patter of their little feet, then, “Mommy!” and seconds later — pounding on the door. THERE IS NO ESCAPING THE TWO YEAR OLD! Hence being thankful for reason #4 of Why Two Year Olds Are Da Bomb.

Oh my-I can just hear her! Yes, 2 year olds can be challenging but they are just soooo lovable!
