Minnesota Center for Book Arts offers a rich variety of hands-on workshops for curious makers of all skill levels, taught by experienced teaching artists who thoughtfully balance demonstration, instruction, and creative work time.
Studio Workshops are in-person, hands-on sessions featuring specialized equipment, small class sizes, and often include a physical takeaway like a book, poster, or handmade paper. Disciplines span bookbinding and box-making, letterpress printing, paper arts, and more, with options at beginner, intermediate, and advanced levels. Upcoming offerings include everything from classic binding structures to pop-up panorama books and historical binding traditions from around the world.
Virtual Workshops feature accessible processes, readily available materials, and the opportunity to connect with artists from near and far. These are available as single-evening or multi-evening sessions, making them a flexible option for those outside the Twin Cities or with busy schedules.
Private Workshops are available for groups, including community organizations, college classes, and corporate teams. Led by an experienced teaching artist, each session begins with a brief tour of MCBA’s studios. Available formats include collaborative letterpress printing, suminagashi marbling, and zine-making.
Age minimums vary by workshop and are not always listed on the website. To find out whether a specific class is appropriate for your child or family, reach out directly to MCBA’s Workshop Manager, Kirsten Olson, at workshops@mnbookarts.org or 612-215-2521. The team is known for being warm and accommodating and can help you find the right fit.
