Spring festivals in the Twin Cities don’t really ease in, they kind of explode back onto the calendar. And this year, we’re super ready. Outside is waking up, the group chats are active again, and suddenly every weekend has something worth getting out of the house for. Coats get lighter, evenings stretch longer, and there’s that very real feeling of “we made it.”

One of our absolute favorites is Cinco de Mayo on the Historic West Side of St. Paul. It’s loud, colorful, packed with incredible food, live music, dancing, and a parade that pulls the whole neighborhood together. You go thinking you’ll pop in for a bit and then you’re still there hours later with a full stomach, probably holding a churro, and zero regrets.

Then there’s something brand new this year and it feels very Main Character Spring. Fleurs de Villes is taking over Galleria Edina and it is wild in the best way. Think mannequins covered head to toe in fresh flowers, huge installations around every corner, and lots of “wait, I need a picture of this” moments. You definitely don’t need a huge time commitment for this one, just swing through when you have a minute or a bit of time between errands. It’ll definitely give you the feel goods in a short amount of time. It’s quick, it’s creative, and it adds a totally different vibe to the lineup of spring festivals this year.

If you want something a little slower but still really special, Art in Bloom at the Minneapolis Institute of Art is always worth it. Floral artists recreate artwork using real blooms, and somehow it makes you see the museum in a totally new way. It’s calm, it smells amazing, and kids actually stay engaged longer than you’d expect because it feels more like a scavenger hunt than a typical museum visit. You can move at your own pace, circle back to favorites, and it never feels rushed. It’s one of those spring festivals that works just as well for a solo morning as it does for a full family outing.

And then when you’re ready to turn the energy back up, the Flint Hills Family Festival is just pure fun. Downtown St. Paul fills up with performances, interactive art, music, and space for kids to actually participate instead of just watching. There’s always something happening, something to climb on, make, or dance to, and it’s designed in a way that feels easy for parents, too.

You don’t need a perfect plan, just a bit of a little motivation to get out the door. Soon you’ll find yourself wandering through flowers, dancing in the street, watching your kids light up during a performance, and somehow the whole day feels easy.
