Last week was one of those weeks.
Let me clarify. Last week was one of THOSE weeks.
You know what I mean, right?
One of those weeks where you are so tired Monday morning that no amount of coffee will zap you into reality.
One of those weeks where you’re coming off of a fun weekend away with family. Where you are glad you went…but also your kids did not sleep and they only ate sugar and carbs the entire time and you now have to reset them back to the regular sleep schedules and meal options.
One of those weeks where your husband is traveling for work because he got a job promotion (yay) but it means more travel (nay).
One of those weeks you attend a nephew’s second birthday party and your child is opening all the presents. Even going as far as to thank the cousin’s grandparents for the gifts.
One of those weeks where you go to your three-year-old’s soccer practice…which is 100% parent involvement (whyyyyy)…but you’re also carrying a 25 pound baby on your hip….and it just so happens to be the week we’re practicing defense which means chasing your three-year-old with said baby on your hip for the entire time.
One of those weeks where the first time you put on “real clothes”…and you know what I mean by that…and within twenty minutes, I have a child bleeding from the mouth and his only way to soothe himself is to sob into my shoulder. Also note, it was a white dress with stripes…and now blood stains on the shoulder.
One of those weeks you find yourself making a list of your skills so you can begin to consider what kinds of jobs you could apply for….because being at home with the kids is starting to overwhelm you.
One of those weeks you are using a public restroom, and your kid opens the door…before you’ve put yourself back together.
One of those weeks where your already potty trained child suddenly refuses to use the toilet…and screams for ten minutes about it when actually going to the bathroom would have taken seven seconds.
One of those weeks where you come home and wonder if your home has been broken into or if you truly did leave your house in such a mess.
One of those weeks you are giving a friend a tour of your house and you suddenly realize the number of pairs of underwear/socks spread throughout the house.
One of those weeks where you can’t handle one more tantrum and you yell back at your kid…and are filled with such shame for “stooping” to their level.
One of those weeks where you recall your previous life working in the corporate world…where people not only listened to what you had to say but did what you asked of them. With me only asking one time!
So…
Now, do you know what I mean by one of THOSE weeks?
I’m sure you do. We all have them.
If you’re anything like me, in the middle of one of THOSE weeks, I think I’m the only one who has one of THOSE weeks. Dramatic? Maybe. But being home with my kids all day can be isolating – and I forget that in the homes down the street, across the city, around the country, and truly all over the world, we all have THOSE weeks.
Right?
But the best part? We get a fresh start. Each week is new. Shoot, each DAY is new! But we have to have the courage to acknowledge the “hard” and put it behind us…and move forward. The courage to say, “Wow, that was one of THOSE weeks…but that doesn’t determine how it has to be going forward.”
So are you in the middle of a hard day/week/month/year?
You are not alone.
Let’s say that again for the people skimming this super fast.
YOU ARE NOT ALONE!
We all have hard moments – BUT…
Tomorrow is coming and who doesn’t love a fresh start?
